About TaxiNurse

TaxiNurse® is the brainchild of a Registered Nurse (RN) with over 30 years experience in critical care cardiology, hematology/oncology, and various ambulatory settings in top hospitals across the nation, as well as  in New York City and Durham. Through the course of a varied career, the need for escorted, post-procedure transportation became apparent.

TaxiNurse® is the collaboration of an experienced nurse and a successful entrepreneur with keen business acumen, who has been meeting the needs of retail and institutional clients on a national scale for nearly a decade. He immediately recognized the potential of TaxiNurse®, and together they combine deep knowledge of the healthcare industry with the ability to run a successful business.

Why We Started

Providers, patients, family members and friends understand how difficult it can be to schedule procedures that require an escort home. This puts pressure on everyone in the process including institutions, caregivers, and especially already anxious patients.

At infusion centers, patients often arrive alone for arduous treatments. Whether it be a tough infusion day when a friend or family member can't be there, or a test/procedure you'd rather keep private, TaxiNurse® companions are personally vetted and trained to provide support and companionship. We'll make sure you have something to eat and/or drink, like a family member or friend would.

Our Most Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I make a reservation with TaxiNurse?
It's easy! Booking online is the best way to reserve, complete the necessary forms, e-sign the waiver, and pay for your service. Your privacy is extremely important to us. Our forms are HIPPA compliant. If you have any questions about booking, you are welcome to email or call us. We will guide you through the process.
  • What happens once I make a reservation?
Once you submit your booking request, you will receive an email confirmation. (Don’t forget to check your spam folder if you don't see it!) You will then click on the included link, which contains a brief patient intake form and e-waiver to sign. This will tell us about your procedure and pick up details, so we can coordinate transportation with your facility. If you do not receive your confirmation email, please contact us and we will resend it. You will also have the option of signing up for text (SMS) or email reminders of your upcoming appointment.
  • Who can book TaxiNurse?
Anyone over 18 who meets our criteria and safety protocols can book with TaxiNurse.
  • How does TaxiNurse ensure I'm safe after my procedure?
The doctors and staff at the procedure center will determine when you meet the appropriate and safe criteria necessary for discharge. Once a physician's discharge order is confirmed, a team member will escort you home. We will not transport you unless we feel you are safe for transport.
  • What if I have a complication after I leave the facility?
You will be provided discharge instructions from the nurses at the facility where you had your procedure. You should follow those instructions and contact your doctor or the facility for further guidance. If you are unable to reach anyone, you should proceed to the nearest emergency room or call 911. In the event you are unsafe for transport at the scheduled time, we will do our very best to work with you and the facility to return and take you home if our schedule permits.
  • What if my procedure is running late?
Once your booking is complete, TaxiNurse team members will communicate with the facility to coordinate your discharge time. We will meet you at the facility. Don't worry about running late, we will stay in contact with the facility, and be there on time. If you aren’t discharged from the facility at the scheduled time, we will allow for an additional 30-minute wait time. After 30 minutes, there will be an additional charge of $1.00 per minute. You may also book our TaxiNurse Enhanced package which ensures we will be present for the entirety of your procedure.
  • What are TaxiNurse Companions?
TaxiNurse Companions are supportive team members provided for clients requesting someone to remain with them during their Hematology/Oncology infusions, or who need support at a test or procedure (i.e., radiation, scans, Mohs procedure). This service costs $50 per hour and does not include transportation. A two-hour minimum is required. A team member will meet you at the location of your infusion or testing appointment and keep you company or assist you. An escorted ride home may also be added to this service for an additional fee of $60 per hour. Feel free to email or call us about customizing your service for you or a loved one.
  • Will TaxiNurse monitor my vital signs?
TaxiNurse ensures your safe return home once you have met the discharge criteria set by the procedure facility. We do not monitor vital signs. There are different levels of service available, and we will work with you to select the package that best suits your needs.
  • Will TaxiNurse let my point of contact know how I am after my procedure?
TaxiNurse respects patient confidentiality and strictly adheres to our Privacy Agreement. We will not divulge any information about you or your procedure to anyone without your informed consent, except in case of an emergency. We may only provide a status update [to one contact] with your permission, but details regarding your appointment or test results are between you and your physician. Please read our Privacy Agreement.
  • What if my procedure or treatment is cancelled?
Things happen! Once we verify that your procedure is cancelled with your healthcare provider, there is no cost to you. We will refund your money, and you can re-book when you are ready. Once your appointment is rescheduled, you can either make another booking, or contact us. We can also enter your appointment manually. Whichever is easiest for you. You can read our Terms of Service and Cancellation Policy.
  • What forms of payment does TaxiNurse accept?
We accept all major credit or debit cards, and payments are processed online at the time of your booking. Sorry, no cash or checks. If you don't have access to a computer, we can make a reservation and accept payment over the phone and then enter your booking manually into our system. We can fax or print your receipt and bring it with us to your appointment.
  • Will my health insurance cover the cost of my ride?
Although we do not accept health insurance at this time, we are actively working on this issue. Feel free to tell your insurer about TaxiNurse, and see if they'll cover the cost of a ride.
